Huge rise in babies taken into care

There has been a dramatic rise in the number of newborn babies taken into care in England, according to researchers from Lancaster University.

In 2008, 800 babies were subject to care proceedings soon after birth, five years later, that figure had risen to more than 2,000.

About half were taken from mothers with other children in care. A third were from women who became mothers as teens.

Sanchia Berg reports.
