Police describe investigation into Maoist cult leader

Police have described their investigation into the Maoist cult leader found guilty on Friday of a string of sex assaults as "painstaking".

Officers looked through over 2,000 exhibits and spent more than 40 hours speaking to his followers before Aravindan Balakrishnan, 75, was convicted of six counts of indecent assault, four counts of rape and two counts of actual bodily harm.

Det Supt Caroline Barker was speaking in front of Southwark Crown Court.
