Criminal courts charge 'should be scrapped'

A fine of up to £1,200 given out to defendants who plead or are found guilty should be scrapped, according to a group of MPs.

The Justice Committee says the charge has led to some magistrates resigning.

Introduced in April, it was designed to help meet the cost of running courts,
