Adoption guidance published after sharp drop in numbers

New figures suggest the number of children being put forward for adoption in England nearly halved between 2013 and 2014; a sharp drop after several years in which adoption levels rose to record highs.

The Adoption Leadership Board - which published the data - says the fall appears to be the result of charities and the authorities misinterpreting recent court judgements.

It has now published new guidance for local authorities, to help steer them through the court process.

Graham Satchell reports.
