Woman talks teenager out of burgling home

A woman from Leeds used her powers of persuasion to stop a teenage burglar from robbing her home.

Viv Hulland, 54, a professional mediator, decided to talk to the intruder as she could tell he was young and frightened.

She told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "I realised he was really afraid - probably more afraid than we were... I could sense he was young and it made me feel sad."

The 17 year old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was later given a nine-month referral order.
