Soldier: 'Insurgents were firing and throwing grenades at us'

A soldier honoured for protecting his unit during an Afghan insurgent attack on his base, despite having a broken back, has described what happened.

Cpl Josh Griffiths, 24, from Merseyside, fought off attackers in March, in Nad Ali. His Conspicuous Gallantry Cross is one of the highest military honours.

He was among 117 servicemen and women recommended for an award by their commanding officers for performing beyond the call of duty.
