NAPO: Probation changes are a 'risk to public safety'

Probation union, the National Association of Probation Officers (Napo), has voiced concern at government plans to introduce private sector involvement to the supervision of offenders.

Napo chief Ian Lawrence said Justice Secretary Chris Grayling had failed to "scrutinise properly" the risks the proposed changes may pose to the public and urged "all parliamentarians to to really look carefully at the legislation".

The justice secretary was due to make an announcement about proposed changes in rehabilitation later on Thursday.
