'Trust your instincts on child abuse' - NSPCC

A charity is appealing for people with concerns about children being abused to contact them.

The NSPCC reported a significant rise in calls to its 24-hour advice line in June and July - nearly twice as many as the same period in 2012.

The organisation put it down to a heightened state of awareness of the problem of child abuse following the Jimmy Savile scandal.

John Cameron, the charity's Head of Child Protection Operations, said more information would help the NSPCC "identify a wide range of children who are suffering in silence."
