Fracking claims: Jamie Kelsey Fry and Peter Styles

The energy firm Cuadrilla says it is scaling back its drilling West Sussex after talking to the police.

The company has been drilling for oil near the village of Balcombe, but has not ruled out using the controversial technique of fracking to release gas.

Speaking to Today presenter Justin Webb, Jamie Kelsey Fry, who speaks for No Dash for Gas and is part of Reclaim the Power, and Peter Styles, professor of applied and environmental geophysics at Keele University and advises the Department of Energy on fracking, looked at the pros and cons of the process.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 16 August 2013.
