HMRC clamps down on unpaid Capital gains tax

The tax office is clamping down on unpaid capital gains tax from the sale of a second home in the past 20 years.

HMRC has been trawling through its books looking at second homes and sent out 35,000 letters to people who may owe tax.

There is a financial penalty for those who have not paid - but an estimated 2.4m people own a second home and more people are liable than you might have realised.

Pinsent Masons tax specialist Heather Self gave more information on BBC Breakfast.
