Tory MP says black tie dinner a 'mistake'

Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg has said he is shocked by "unpleasant" comments made by a right-wing group whose annual dinner he spoke at in May.

He told BBC Newsnight he had "clearly made a mistake" by attending the event run by the Traditional Britain Group (TBG).

The group's Facebook page had called for Doreen Lawrence, the mother of murdered black teenager Stephen Lawrence, and "millions of others" to be "requested to return to their natural homelands".

TBG's vice president Gregory Lauder-Frost also appeared on the programme and said he believed Mrs Lawrence was "totally without merit".
