NHS care hit by poor deals on supplies

Some NHS trusts in England are paying significantly more than others for identical supplies, according to an investigation by the accounting firm Ernst and Young.

There have been repeated warnings from MPs and the National Audit Office that poor purchasing is costing the health service up to £500m a year.

There are now warnings that frontline care at some hospitals could be affected by the overspending.
