Farmers close to breaking point, claims charity

A charity which helps farmers facing severe economic hardship has reported a significant rise in the number of calls to its helpline.

The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution said it has seen a 50% increase, in a year when many farms have seen their crops badly damaged by the wet summer weather.

They claim the strain on some British farmers is as great as during the foot-and-mouth crisis in 2001.

Phil Connell reports.
