Ash cloud strands air travellers

Thousands of passengers are facing delays and flight cancellations as the ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano drifts across northern Europe.

Several airlines had suspended services in and out of parts of Scotland and northern England, and Ryanair was forced to cancel its flights following an intervention by the Irish authorities.
