Environment Secretary visits scene of Cornish floods

As the clean-up operation continues in parts of Cornwall affected by Wednesday's flooding, the Secretary of State for Environment, Caroline Spelman, has been to see the extent of the devastation for herself.

Speaking to the BBC Ms Spelman promised to "continue to help the community get back to normal".

She denied the budget cuts would have a significant effect on flood defences and stressed the need for communities to "help themselves" in such events.
