Gypsy rights campaigner jailed for £2.9m benefits scam

A civil rights campaigner for Roma gypsies has been jailed for 2 years and 3 months after admitting taking part in a fraud that cost British taxpayers nearly 3 million pounds.

Lavinia Olmazu was working with a Romanian criminal gang and at the same time was employed as a Roma outreach worker for two London councils.

Police officers say money from the fraud was funnelled directly to crime bosses in Romania.

Dominic Hughes reports.
