History of early MI6 published

Some of the early secrets of MI6 have been revealed in a book about the first 40 years of the foreign intelligence service.

Author Professor Keith Jeffery was given access to all the files in the archives at MI6, also known as the Secret Intelligence Service.

Prof Jeffery said the only restriction he faced while researching MI6: The History of the Secret Intelligence Service 1909-1949 was not naming some traitorous agents.

Gordon Corera reports.
