Pope Benedict welcomed by the Queen

The Queen has said she is "delighted" to welcome Pope Benedict to Edinburgh.

He was officially welcomed at Holyroodhouse ahead of a parade through the city and an open-air Mass in Glasgow.

The Queen said that "in this country we deeply appreciate the involvement of the Holy See in the dramatic improvement in the situation in Northern Ireland."
