Service to commemorate Blitz 70 years on

A remembrance service is being held on Tuesday to mark the 70th anniversary of the start of the Blitz.

Thousands of people across the UK were killed and injured in the series of co-ordinated air attacks by Hitler's forces.

Night after night, Hitler's Luftwaffe carried out bombing raids on major towns and cities, singling out London for special attention.

More than 400 people were killed on the first day alone when nearly 1,000 German planes crossed the channel.

Robert Hall reports.
