In the driving seat: Power to control traffic lights
New technology which could give drivers more information on - and even power to control - traffic lights is being tested in Newcastle.
The system advises motorists of the speed they need to drive at to arrive at lights at exactly the right time and could give priority vehicles, such as ambulances, the power to change them from stop to go.
It is hoped the reduction in waiting times at traffic lights could help reduce pollution and save on fuel.
