Tech Know: Building a retro 8-bit computer

Half a century after the microprocessor was conceived, Ellie Gibson has recreated one of the first computers that incorporated the technology.

With the help of classic computer collector John Honniball, she built a machine with a simple 8-bit processor.

The Fignition computer was designed by Julian Skidmore as a self-assembly kit.

Early construction kits and home computers, such as the ZX Spectrum and Acorn, had similar circuitry and capacity.
