Rock records key Earth transition

The rise of oxygen was a key phase in Earth history and visitors to London's Natural History Museum will soon be able to put their hands on its rock record.

The South Kensington institution has acquired a piece of banded iron formation (BIF).

Head of Earth sciences, Prof Richard Herrington, explained the specimen's significance to our science correspondent Jonathan Amos.
