Drilling into a volcano

Scientists in Iceland are working on a project to harness the immense energy of a volcano to provide power for tens of thousands of homes.

They have drilled to a depth of nearly three miles (4.8km), where temperatures reach 500 degrees Celsius and they plan to access a vast subterranean reservoir.

Rebecca Morelle explains how they will achieve this.
