How European Schiaparelli probe will land on Mars

Europe's Schiaparelli spacecraft is on course to land on Mars on 19 October.

After entering the Red Planet's atmosphere, the probe has six minutes to reduce its 21,000km/h entry speed to zero in order to make a relatively soft landing on Mars' dusty surface.

Schiaparelli is a technology demonstrator and the mission is designed to showcase the European Space Agency's (Esa) ability to land on Mars.
