Giant 183-year-old tortoise given new diet

Jonathan, a 183-year-old giant tortoise, has been put on a nutritious diet by a vet after he was found to be eating leaves and twigs.

Dr John Wilkinson from the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust, told 5 live's Tony Livesey the tortoise appeared to be suffering health problems because of his diet.

Jonathan the Aldabra giant tortoise has lived on St Helena Island in the South Atlantic Ocean since the 1800s.
