Scientists astounded as marmoset cares for dying mate

A wild male marmoset has been filmed embracing and caring for his dying partner.

The female monkey accidentally fell from a tree in the Brazilian forests and the male comforted her.

Scientists say such behaviour is "astounding" and has only been previously been recorded in chimpanzees and humans.

Geneticist Dr Jarrod Bailey told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "There's a lot more to these animals... It has real consequences for how we view and treat other species."
