Are people less ashamed of being 'geeks?'

"Geek" has been named the word of the year by the Collins online dictionary.

The word is defined as "a person who is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about a specific subject" or someone who is "a boring and unattractive social misfit".

But after the dictionary also added the words geekery, geek chic and geekdom to its pages, has being a geek become more acceptable in society?

Comedian and self-confessed "geek" Robin Ince told BBC Radio 5 live's Drive: "People are getting their telescopes out... and there is less and less shame about that."
