Forced to work like a slave at the age of 10

When Dampson was 10 he was given away by his mother to a man who forced him to work as a fisherman in dangerous conditions.

He was treated like a slave and some of the boys he met were injured or died.

He wasn't allowed to go to school, but after four years a charity, Challenging Heights, rescued him from Ghana's Lake Volta.

Dampson's story is told in Our World: Ghana's Child Labourers on the BBC News Channel at 21:30 on 23 and 24 July. It will be broadcast on BBC World from Friday 22 July.

Viewers in the UK can catch up on the BBC iPlayer.
