Nightingales sing with RAF bombers overhead

In 1942, the BBC was recording an outside broadcast of nightingales singing when 147 RAF bombers flew overheard.

The recording of the birdsong had become a BBC tradition, having started 12 years previously. However the war, and the poignant sound of bombers flying overhead put a stop to it for security reasons.
