BBC Rewind: Nelson's pillar in Dublin before its destruction

Nelson famously stands on top of a column in Trafalgar Square, London, but there was another monument to the naval leader, Nelson's pillar in Dublin.

Erected 34 years earlier than its London counterpart, it was destroyed in 1966 by a bomb planted by Irish republicans.

BBC archive footage shows Alan Whicker exploring Ireland's attitude towards the monument shortly before it was blown up.
