Paxman's take on Clinton's inauguration

After 12 years of Republicans holding the top spot in the land, Bill Clinton was elected in 1992 with only 43% of the popular vote.

In doing so, he prevented President George H W Bush from serving a second term.

Jeremy Paxman presented BBC Newsnight on the night of Clinton's first inauguration - describing the festivities as "schmaltzy, naive, yet exhilarating" and the president's speech as one that "read better than it sounded".
