'Let down' by four cancelled operations

The BBC has learnt that many more operations at English hospitals have been cancelled than previously made public.

Tony Moule, who is 69, needed an operation to stop bone touching his spinal cord, which causes him great pain and could eventually lead to paralysis.

He was told he needed surgery for his back last year, but it was cancelled four times before the operation finally took place in early January.

Cambridge University Hospitals said they apologise unreservedly to Mr Moule and cancellations were a result of extreme pressure when clinically urgent cases came in.
