Prescribe medicine 'to prevent disease'

Leading doctors say the NHS must prepare to use medicines to prevent disease, rather than just treating it.

The Academy of Medical Sciences says the development of personalised medicine is an opportunity to protect health.

Critics say the emphasis should be on improving lifestyles, rather than what they call "pill-popping".
