Laser detects brain tumour

Surgeons in London have used a revolutionary technique involving lasers during surgery to remove a brain tumour.

They used laser light to diagnose instantly whether the tissue was cancerous.

It is hoped the technique could make this kind of delicate surgery faster and more accurate.

The BBC's medical correspondent Fergus Walsh followed the patient throughout his treatment.
