Jeremy Hunt: NHS 'Monday to Friday' culture must change
A "Monday to Friday" culture in the NHS in England has had "tragic consequences" and has to change, according to the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt.
Mr Hunt said 6,000 people a year died because of a lack of senior doctors working at weekends, and he wanted to change that within the next five years.
The doctor's union, the British Medical Association, said it did support more seven-day working, but criticised Mr Hunt's plan for being "too simplistic".
