Poor liver disease detection rates revealed in report

Leading medical experts are warning that the early detection of liver disease by GPs in the UK is "virtually non-existent".

The researchers, who have examined the problem for the medical journal the Lancet, have criticised a reliance on blood tests for diagnosis.

They say the technique is outdated and sometimes give false reassurance that there is no illness.
