David Aaronovitch on the 'abject terror' of ICU psychosis

Intensive care psychosis or delirium affects some patients in intensive care and it can result in confusion, paranoia and really terrible fear.

Lots of things may cause it including morphine, lighting, disorientation or just the strangeness of an intensive care ward.

The journalist and commentator David Aaronovitch has written vividly about it after a spell in an intensive care unit after complications set in for him after a routine operation. He explains what happened to him.
