NHS consultant overtime pay of £100,000 'unusual'

NHS consultants overtime pay of over £100,000 only takes place because of unusual circumstances according to the BMA.

Deputy chairman of the BMA's consultants committee Dr Ian Wilson said that the rare examples of high overtime pay were because of government targets rather than people playing the system.

Basic pay for consultants stands at just under £90,000 a year on average with overtime rates varying, but often about £600 for four hours.
