Origins of fairy tales 'thousands of years old'

Researchers have found that fairy tales are thousands of years old, and older than the earliest literary records.

Academics from universities in Durham and Lisbon studied links between stories from around the world and found some to have prehistoric roots.

Jack and the Beanstalk, for example, was traced back to when Eastern and Western Indo-European languages split more than 5,000 years ago.

Dr James Tehrani, Cultural Anthropolgist from Durham University, explains.
