Talking Turner: Mike Leigh interviewed by Tate director

Mike Leigh's new film Mr Turner, starring Timothy Spall, begins with the artist at the height of his fame and follows him through the next quarter of a century into penury and eventual death.

The film's opening in the UK on Friday coincides with the Late Turner exhibition at Tate Britain which celebrates the creative flowering of the artists towards the end of his life, so who better to interview Mike Leigh for Newsnight than the director of the Tate, Nicholas Serota.

Here they are, in the first of a series of encounters on Newsnight between cultural figures.
