One Day author says he was 'incredibly lucky'
David Nicholls' Us is published on Tuesday, and after the success of previous novel One Day is hotly anticipated.
His new book, which is about an impending divorce and a final holiday around Europe, has already been long-listed for the Man Booker prize.
Speaking to BBC arts correspondent Rebecca Jones for the Today programme, Nicholls said: "One Day was a sort of farewell, I suppose, to a certain period of my life. Sitting down to write the follow-up I felt it was time to write about family, marriage and parenthood".
"I try not to complain too much because I was incredibly lucky with One Day," he added.
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Monday 29 September.
