Nick Ross calls for end to BBC licence fee

The BBC licence fee should be scrapped and replaced with a subscription service, TV presenter Nick Ross has said.

The former Crimewatch host claimed that a pay-per-view or subscription model would be more popular than the current £145.50 licence.

Ross told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "The BBC is the jewel in the crown of British culture and this is an argument about how to preserve it.... it can't stick with this compulsory licence fee forever."

The BBC said the change would mean fewer people paying much more each year to maintain a quality service.
