A masterpiece by the British painter Francis Bacon has become the most valuable piece of artwork ever sold by Christies auction house in Europe.
The six-foot canvas of the artist's lover and muse George Dyer had been expected to sell for £28m ($47m), but eventually went for £42m ($70m) during a sale in London.
