Composer Bennett dies aged 76

The composer Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, considered to be one of the most gifted of his generation, has died, aged 76.

He produced more than 200 concert pieces, ballets and operas, but was probably best known for his film and television scores, including the Oscar-nominated Murder on the Orient Express and Far from the Madding Crowd.

Barbican director Sir Nicholas Kenyon paid tribute to the prolific composer and said he was "one of the most rounded musicians of our time".
