New director general Tony Hall: 'I care about the BBC'

The chief executive of the Royal Opera House and the BBC's former director of news, Tony Hall, has been made the corporation's new director general.

Speaking to journalists, he said it took a lot to "drag me away" from the Royal Opera House, but that he cared "passionately about the BBC", adding he was "absolutely committed" to the corporation's news operation, and the BBC as a whole.
