Fair cop? The Bill comes to an end

'The Bill' - Britain's longest-running police TV series - screeches to a halt on Tuesday night.

After 27 years on our screens, the show has been dropped after a major revamp failed to win back viewers.

It seems that in a world of DNA fingerprinting on CSI and foiled terrorist plots on 24, a drama about Bobbies on the beat just isn't exciting enough.

So when did our tastes change? BBC Breakfast spoke to actor Graham Cole - better known to us as The Bill's PC Tony Stamp and policeman-turned-author Mike Pannett.
