Steel crisis: Union 'called for PM to show an interest'

A steel trade union leader has said David Cameron should have a better understanding of the challenges facing the industry after a visit to Port Talbot.

The prime minister was given a tour of the steelworks before discussing the future of the plant with Tata Steel management.

The Indian-owned company announced in March it wanted to sell its loss-making UK businesses prompting fears for thousands of jobs.

Roy Rickhuss, general secretary of the Community trade union, said he welcomed the fact Mr Cameron had finally visited the plant.
