'Government hasn't been doing well in education'

It's the first time in almost 20 years that AS levels haven't counted towards the final grade in some subjects. The changes include decoupling AS-levels from A-levels so AS results no longer contribute towards a final A-level mark.

Gordon Marsden, shadow minister for higher education, further education and skills, tells Today that the number of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds going into university in eight years time will be lower than today.
