Religious education teachers 'lack support'

The deputy chair of the Religious Education Council for England and Wales, Helen Harrison, has said many teachers lack support in teaching religious education.

The education watchdog Ofsted concluded that more than half of England's schools are failing pupils in the teaching of the subject.

Ofsted highlighted low standards, weak teaching, weak examination provision and confusion about the purpose of RE.
