Fire explodes at student tuition fee demo

Lines of police are blocking in thousands of student protesters in central London, after a wave of protests against higher tuition fees and university budget cuts.

Two police officers were injured as police held back demonstrators.

A police van was attacked, fires started and barricades thrown at police during clashes in Whitehall.

The BBC's Mike Sergeant was broadcasting when one of the fires lit by protesters exploded.
